About Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources Development
Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources Development is responsible for developing, regulating managing the State Solid Mineral Resources. The Ministry aims to make Bauchi State a hub for Solid Mineral Exploration and development, promoting economic growth, Job creation and community development. The Ministry commenced registration of mining operators and processors in April, 2024 to generate real data and profile of operators for security, safety and environmental purposes.
The Ministry created a Special Purpose Vehicle (S.P.V) named Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited (BAMSEL) for Mineral businesses. The Ministry is partnering with foreign and local investors and other stakeholders to develop infrastructure, promote investor-friendly climate and ensure environmental sustainability and other things.

1976
Establishment
From the former North-Eastern State of Nigeria, giving rise to the later establishment of ministries responsible for the State’s economic sectors, including natural resources.
1997
Relevant context
The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) was established, creating environmental and natural resource governance capacity in the state. While this agency is separate from the Ministry, its functions laid groundwork for future resource management emphasis.
Pre-2023
The State Government operated departments and units focused on mining, land, environmental protection, and natural resources under various administrative configurations. (Exact founding date of the dedicated “Ministry of Natural Resources Development” is not published on official sources.)

Hon. Muhammad Maiwada Bello appointed Commissioner for Natural Resources Development in Bauchi State, marking a major leadership milestone for the Ministry’s modern era.
April 2024
Ministry commenced formal registration of mining operators and processors to generate accurate data and improve regulatory oversight, a key reform in resource governance.
2024
The Ministry created a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)
Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited (BAMSEL) — to drive investment, commercial mining activities, and public-private partnerships in solid minerals.
January 2025
Ministry marks one-year anniversary under Commissioner Bello, highlighting sustainable exploration policies, recruitment of staff, and initiatives to formalize artisanal mining and data collection.
September 2025
The Ministry celebrated two years of transformative natural resource sector reforms including new policy frameworks, investor engagements, and strategic infrastructure support for mining and oil & gas development.
